E-Mail FAQ:

How do I add more e-mail accounts to my hosting?

If you need more users, you can continue adding them to the limit of your account. Each user can be responsible for as many e-mail addresses as you wish. For instance, Fred might take all mail for the following aliases at yourdomain.com:

      fred@yourdomain.com
      sales@yourdomain.com
      pre-sales@yourdomain.com
      fred.berry@yourdomain.com

To setup fred's account to accept these aliases, you click the e-mail maintenance icon (email maintenance icon) and add the aliases under the section marked 'EMail Aliases', then click 'Save Changes'.

Should I collect my e-mail from my hosting account, or forward it for collection elsewhere?

Whenever possible, you should always forward your mail off the hosting account server. This is because mail sat on the server counts towards your quota. If you forward all mail to your ISP accounts, you are not affecting your quota, which means you have web space available for your HTML files, graphics, logfiles and CGI-Scripts. This is the intended use of your web account.

If your e-mail usage is light, or you have a large account with plenty of disk space, leaving e-mail on the server, or collecting it using our web based e-mail system is fine - otherwise, you may run into quota problems.

If I only have a single ISP account, how can I forward my e-mail without collecting it at home?

This makes forwarding your e-mail a lot trickier, but there are two ways round this problem:

  1. The easiest way is to ask your ISP for another mailbox. Most ISPs provide multiple mailboxes for each account you have with them. For instance, AT&T @ Home provides 5 accounts - MSN provides 5 accounts, all for the basic price of your monthly ISP package.

Simply setup a second e-mail box using your ISP's instructions, use one for home, and the second for work - collect the second account using your Work PC (at the office etc).

  2. The other method involves "leaving e-mail on the server" - which is something you need to read your e-mail program's help section on.

This method is NOT for faint-hearted, but it means your e-mail program leaves the e-mail on the server when it retrieves it (ie, it does NOT delete it), and when you delete it from your inbox, or "mark" it for deletion on the server, it gets removed - this means you can collect it multiple times from different, or even the same PC.

How do I setup my mail to forward automatically to another account?

To setup mail forwarding for an account, you need to click the e-mail maintenance icon (email maintenance icon) and enter the destination e-mail account in the box marked 'Forward Email To', then click 'Save Changes'.

How do I set or unset a vacation message/autoresponder?

To turn ON an auto-responder or vacation message for an email account, you need to click the e-mail maintenance icon (email maintenance icon) and enter your vacation message or auto-responder in the box labeled 'Vacation Message' - click the checkbox so that it is checked (ie, the check-mark is VISIBLE), then click the 'Save Changes' button at the bottom of the user maintenance table.

To turn OFF an auto-responder or vacation message for an email account, you need to again click the e-mail maintenance icon (email maintenance icon) and unclick the checkbox so that it is unchecked (ie, the check-mark is NOT VISIBLE), then click the 'Save Changes' button.

Can I setup a 'catch-all' e-mail account on my domain?

You certainly can! On one of your accounts, preferably one that is forwarded, add the alias '@yourdomain.com'. This is your catch-all account now, and all mail for your domain will be recieved at this account.

This kind of e-mail account will over-ride ALL aliases you have defined to be redirected elsewhere!

Someone sending me e-mail tells me that they get a denied message?

We do not block e-mail from hosts often, but it does happen. When we receive a significant amount of e-mail from addresses at hosts which appear to be setup purely for spamming, we put this host (and all derivatives and sub-hosts/sub-domains) in our block list.

The list of blocked hosts is:
